The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, warned, on the sidelines of her speech during the meeting of the heads of state and government of the European Union (EU), today, of the danger of Tunisia exporting to the old continent 900,000 irregular migrants unless an end to the current crisis in Tunisia is reached.
The Italian Premier noted that these immigrants will pick their way across Italy to Europe.
She stressed that her country is “incapable” of receiving and sheltering them.
Meloni also called for the need to push for an agreement between the Tunisian state and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in order to obtain the required loan to save its public finances, and so that the situation does not worsen for the worse.
Today, Friday, Meloni called in Brussels to support Tunisia, which is facing a serious financial crisis.
For its part, the Tunisian National Guard confirmed that, during the past two days, it had thwarted 30 illegal crossings of the maritime borders, and seized 2,034 immigrants, including nine Tunisians.
