Italy's cabinet adopted a decree to keep supplying Ukraine with weapons for 2023 without seeking formal approval from parliament for each new shipment.

The move aligns with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s commitment that her administration would keep supporting Kyiv despite frictions on the issue within the ruling right-wing coalition.

On Thursday, La Repubblica newspaper reported that Italy would provide Ukraine with four batteries of the "old-generation" Aspide anti-aircraft system, with 18 missiles each, complete with radars.

Meanwhile, European officials are scrambling to help Ukraine stay warm and keep functioning through the coming months.

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly arrived on Friday in Kyiv for an unannounced visit, promising an air-defense package, which Britain valued at $60 million.

"Words are not enough. Words won't keep the lights on this winter. Words won't defend against Russian missiles," Cleverly said in a tweet about the military aid.

The package follows the delivery of over 1,000 anti-air missiles that Britain announced earlier this month.

Cleverly added: "As winter sets in, Russia is continuing to try and break Ukrainian resolve through its brutal attacks on civilians, hospitals, and energy infrastructure."
