Italian Prime Minister (PM) Giorgia Meloni has affirmed that the Gulf states represent a vital strategic partner for her country. She noted that her current visit serves as a "gesture of solidarity" and an effort to bolster bilateral relations amidst ongoing regional and international challenges.
Meloni explained that Italy imports approximately 15% of its oil requirements from the Gulf region, underscoring the area's significance in securing energy supplies and supporting market stability.
She added that her tour—which includes Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE—features discussions on energy files alongside ways to enhance economic and investment cooperation.
This comes as part of Rome's commitment to diversifying its energy sources and strengthening its international partnerships.
