Italy has decided to withdraw part of its diplomatic staff from Iran, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, following a crisis management meeting held at the foreign ministry on Monday.

The report states that Italy’s foreign minister ordered a significant reduction in personnel at the Italian embassy in Tehran, citing safety concerns. The move is reportedly temporary, pending further decisions from US authorities.

The withdrawal comes amid escalating tensions in the region. Middle East Eye reported on Tuesday that a Gulf official warned the United States could launch targeted strikes against Iranian officials linked to the deaths of protesters later this week.

Separately, Fox News said on Monday that the US Navy carrier strike group led by the USS Abraham Lincoln has entered the US Central Command area of responsibility in the Indian Ocean.

The New York Times also reported that the carrier could be ready for military action against Iran within a day or two if ordered.
