On Monday evening, Meloni spoke with US President Joe Biden on the phone, shortly after he arrived in Poland after making a surprise visit to Kiev.
The Italian government said the two officials discussed their continued close coordination on support to Ukraine, including assistance on security, economic and humanitarian issues.
On Monday, Meloni said during a press conference at the end of a meeting with her Polish counterpart, Mateusz Morawiecki, who heads a populist nationalist government, "Of course, Ukraine can count on Italy because, as we have proven from the beginning ... we have stood by Kiev and will continue in this approach."
"We have provided financial, military, humanitarian and civilian support," she added.
