The Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology has confirmed that Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano, erupted once more on the island of Sicily, prompting authorities to declare the highest state of alert for air traffic.

According to the European news network Euronews, ash clouds were observed rising from the volcano’s crater, though their altitude had not been determined as of late last night.
Despite the eruption, Catania International Airport remains operational at this stage.
