On Monday, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has made a firm request to his Israeli counterpart, Israel Katz, for the cessation of actions in Gaza that result in civilian casualties, as reported by Italy's ANSA news agency. Tajani's communication emphasizes the need for Israel to adhere strictly to international law during its military operations, signaling a strong stance against the continuation of what he termed "massacres" against civilians in the region.

This dialogue occurred during a recent call, anchored by Tajani's assertion of Italy's unwavering commitment to fostering peace. Highlighting Italy's role as the current leader of the G7 group,

Tajani expressed a definitive opposition to any potential Israeli ground operations in the city of Rafah. He stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire to facilitate the crucial delivery of humanitarian aid and the release of hostages, underscoring these as non-negotiable elements for advancing towards a sustainable and lasting cessation of hostilities.

Moreover, Tajani reiterated Italy's support for a two-state solution, showcasing Italy's readiness to play a constructive role in shaping Gaza's future. This future, he noted, should ideally involve the active participation of Arab nations, aligning with broader regional peace initiatives.

Katz's visit to Rome, which commenced last Sunday and spanned two days, was part of a broader agenda that included discussions on a targeted food aid program for Gaza. Accompanying Katz were family members of individuals currently held captive in the region, highlighting the human dimension of the ongoing conflict and the urgent need for resolution.
