Heavy rains and floods have led to the evacuation of about 900 people in the Italian regions of Emilia-Romagna and Marche after rivers and streams burst their banks or threatened to do so.
The Italian authorities carried out evacuations in areas along the Adriatic coast, the ANSA news agency reported.
The accident and emergency unit of a hospital in Sengalia, near Ancona, the Marche capital, had to be evacuated as a result of the floods. There have been no reports so far of any injuries.
Fire services reported fallen trees and landslides, and vehicles were stranded. The fire services said they had been called out more than 120 times to put out fires or to take part in relief or evacuations.
Intercity rail links in the region were cut, and the authorities closed schools in some towns.
