The CEO of Israel's Eilat Port has announced a complete halt in port operations and the dismissal of a significant number of workers due to the ongoing crisis in the Red Sea.
According to a report by the Israeli newspaper Maariv, the crisis has rendered ships unable to navigate to and from the port, situated in southern Israel.
The CEO explained that due to the persistent disruptions, a large number of employees have been laid off. Port operations have been redirected to the Ashdod and Haifa ports.
The CEO emphasized that the losses for Eilat Port will continue unless Israel takes decisive action with coalition partners to address the issue.
The crisis is exacerbated by continued Houthi attacks on vessels transiting the Red Sea, targeting ships bound for Eilat and other Israeli ports.
In addition to maritime attacks, the Houthis have launched strikes on the city of Eilat itself, located on the Gulf of Aqaba.
On Sunday, the Houthis claimed responsibility for launching ballistic missiles at Eilat. The Israeli military reported intercepting a missile fired from Yemen that was heading towards the city.
The Houthis have threatened to continue targeting Israeli ships or vessels headed to Israeli ports unless the aggression on Gaza ceases.
