The United States has confirmed it carried out joint military strikes with Israel against targets inside Iran, marking an unprecedented escalation that pushes the confrontation into a more dangerous phase.
An Israeli defense official said the operation was “coordinated with America,” noting that planning had been underway for months and that the timing of the strike had been set weeks in advance.
The official described the action as a preemptive move aimed at degrading specific Iranian capabilities, but declined to disclose the nature of the targets or the extent of the damage caused.
Wave of Attacks in Tehran
Iran, for its part, reported a new wave of attacks in Tehran. The semi-official Mehr News Agency said an Iranian intelligence facility in the capital was among the sites targeted.
The The New York Times quoted residents in Iran as describing scenes of “chaos and panic” following successive explosions across several areas of the country.
An Iranian official told the newspaper that “the United States is now attacking Iran,” directly accusing Washington of active participation in the military operations, underscoring the widening scope of the confrontation.
A New Phase of Escalation
The public acknowledgment of coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv signals a shift from covert or limited strikes to an openly declared joint campaign. The development significantly raises regional tensions and fuels concerns about a broad Iranian response.
Attention is now focused on the nature of Tehran’s potential retaliation, with expectations ranging from missile strikes to drone attacks targeting Israeli sites or US interests in the region.
