The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israeli soldiers executed two Palestinian youths on Thursday in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, after forcing them to lie on the ground and shooting them at close range.
The Israeli army said it is investigating the incident, which was filmed by Palestinians on their mobile phones and posted on social media. The footage showed the two youths surrendering to the soldiers. The army stated that they were armed and had barricaded themselves inside a building for hours before the incident.
A joint statement from the army and police explained that the forces were conducting an arrest operation in Jenin. The statement indicated that the two youths threw explosives and opened fire on security personnel. After engineering equipment was used on the building, the two wanted men emerged and were shot.
The statement confirmed that the investigation is ongoing by field commanders, and the incident will be referred to the relevant authorities for review.
