Today, Monday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog called on the government coalition to halt judicial reform legislation, after a violent night of protests, punctuated by riots and clashes with the police.
"Tonight we witnessed some very difficult scenes," Herzog said. "I turn to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the government, and members of the coalition: Emotions are difficult and painful.
He warns that the Israeli population is consumed by deep anxiety. He stressed that security, economy, society - everything in Israel is threatened."
"For the unity of the people of Israel and for the sake of responsibility, I call on you to stop the legislation immediately. I call on all party leaders in the Knesset, the coalition, and the opposition, to put the nation's citizens above all else and act responsibly and courageously without further delay," he added.
Netanyahu had ended this morning's consultations that lasted for hours to assess the political situation following the dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant yesterday.
