An Israeli drone strike targeted a town in southern Lebanon on Saturday, just days before the scheduled ceasefire deadline between Hezbollah and Israel on February 18, according to Lebanon’s official National News Agency.
The strike hit the Al-Aqaba neighborhood on the outskirts of Ainata, a town in the Bint Jbeil district. While emergency responders rushed to the scene, no casualties were reported.
Despite the ceasefire agreement that took effect on November 27, 2024, Israel has continued to launch intermittent airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon.
The Israeli military maintains that it is acting to eliminate threats, while also reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the ceasefire terms to prevent Hezbollah from rearming or strengthening its forces.
Under the November ceasefire agreement, Israel agreed to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah was required to move away from the border as the Lebanese army took control of the area
