Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced that the evacuation of residents from areas in the Gaza Strip will begin soon.
The Israeli army said in a statement a short while ago that the operation aims to expand the defensive zone and establish a line between the north and south of the Gaza Strip. It noted that its forces "control the center of the Netzarim axis" and will continue operating against what it called "terrorist organizations," referring to Hamas, with the aim of protecting Israeli citizens.
The Israeli army added: "Forces from the Golani Brigade will be stationed in the southern region and will be ready to operate inside the Gaza Strip."
