Four young Palestinian men were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Noor Shams refugee camp near Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday night, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Israel claimed the strike targeted a "terrorist cell" preparing an explosive device.
The Israeli military operations have intensified in recent weeks in the Noor Shams refugee camp, located near the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem. In a Telegram post, the Israeli army stated that it had struck "a terrorist cell in the Noor Shams area while they were preparing an explosive device."
The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed in a statement that "four young men were martyred in an Israeli airstrike on Noor Shams camp." The ministry released the names of the four victims, aged between 20 and 25.
According to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, the four young men "succumbed to their injuries after being targeted by a missile from an Israeli drone while they were in the middle of Noor Shams camp."
On Monday, a child and a woman were killed in the northern occupied West Bank during an Israeli army incursion in Noor Shams. On Sunday, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization announced that a fighter from its armed wing was killed in the camp by an Israeli drone strike. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that five people were injured in the attack, two of them critically.
The West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967, has seen escalating violence for over a year, but the situation has deteriorated since the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza began on October 7.
In April, 14 people were killed in a three-day Israeli military operation in Noor Shams camp. The Israeli army claims these incursions target armed Palestinian groups, but civilians are often caught in the crossfire.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war, at least 556 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or settlers, according to Palestinian officials.
