Israeli Airports Suffer Over $100 Mln in Losses

The Israeli Airports Authority has reported significant financial losses totaling 105 million shekels (about $27 million) during the first nine months of 2024.

These losses stem from the economic fallout of the ongoing conflict, which has led to a sharp decline in passenger numbers and a reduction in international flights, according to reports from Israel's Channel 13.

The war has had a pronounced impact on Israel's aviation sector, with international carriers scaling back their operations to and from Israeli airports.

Adding to these challenges, Israeli airline El Al recently announced an extension of its suspension of flights between Tel Aviv and Moscow until the end of the winter season.

This decision follows last week's halt in air traffic between the two cities due to "recent developments in Russian airspace."

These developments were highlighted after Azerbaijani officials reported the crash of a passenger plane in Kazakhstan, allegedly caused by Russian air defenses.

El Al issued a statement explaining that after a comprehensive evaluation of the situation, it decided to suspend all flights on the Tel Aviv-Moscow route for the remainder of the winter.

The airline emphasized that this decision was made in consultation with local authorities to better understand the evolving circumstances.
