Israel expressed its openness to the German initiative aimed at expanding the nuclear agreement with Iran and turning it into a more comprehensive security deal after the US President-elect Joe Biden takes office.

Israel supports Germany's proposal to expand the nuclear deal with Iran, but the Iranian government responded to this suggestion by saying that Tehran doesn't see the necessity of bargaining again the nuclear agreement as it is in force.

In an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Israeli ambassador to Germany, Jeremy Issacharov, described the call that came earlier this month from the German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, to review the nuclear agreement to include a broader spectrum of urgent issues, as a "step in the right direction.

The Israeli diplomat expressed Israel's support for Germany to activate its involvement in regional diplomacy in the Middle East.

Jeremy Issacharov affirmed the need for the 5 + 1 countries formula which includes the United States of America (USA), Germany, France, Britain, Russia, and China to take into account during any future negotiations with Iran.

He claimed that Iran destabilizes other countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq, saying that he thinks that Iran should realize that it is not possible to just turn back the clock until 2015.

He said that there were production and testing of missiles in Iran, and these issues must be dealt with, as well as the widespread violations committed by Iran.

In recent years, Iran has taken a series of concrete steps to bypass its obligations under the nuclear deal, in protest against the US President Donald Trump's administration's decision to withdraw from the deal and tightened sanctions against Tehran.

The winner of the US presidential elections, Joe Biden, who will take the helm on January 20, has expressed his intention to return to the nuclear agreement, in the event that Iran returns in return to its full obligations.

Iran has repeatedly refused to review the nuclear deal.
