The Israel Defense Forces targeted a camp belonging to the Ghanaian battalion serving within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in the town of Al-Qawzah, in the Bint Jbeil District of southern Lebanon, resulting in injuries among members of the Ghanaian contingent.
Ghana is one of the oldest contributors to the UNIFIL mission, currently deploying more than 870 soldiers.
The first president and commander of UNIFIL from Ghana was the late Emmanuel Erskine, who led the mission from its establishment in March 1978 until February 1981.
