Israel sharply intensified its military operations in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, marking one of the most significant escalations since the ceasefire agreement came into effect.
The renewed strikes come amid broad international criticism directed at the Israeli government for widening the scope of its actions.
According to on-air reports from Cairo News Channel, Israeli air force jets, artillery units, and naval forces launched a series of consecutive attacks on multiple areas across Gaza. The operations were carried out under the justification that Palestinian factions had crossed the “yellow line,” an area under full Israeli military control that represents approximately 54% to 58% of the territory.
The past two weeks had seen a relative decline in Israeli strikes, coinciding with U.S. pressure and international diplomatic efforts, including the UN Security Council’s approval of an international monitoring mechanism. However, that period of reduced tension ended abruptly on Thursday.
Israel claimed the escalation was prompted by gunfire allegedly directed at its soldiers in Rafah, though no injuries were reported. Israeli media described the subsequent operation as “harsh,” saying it was intended to issue a renewed warning to Hamas and other Palestinian groups against violating the ceasefire or advancing beyond the delineated yellow line.
