On Monday evening, Israel carried out extensive airstrikes on Rafah in southern Gaza. An Agence France-Presse correspondent reported that the strikes continued almost non-stop over the past half hour.
This comes after Hamas announced its approval of a ceasefire proposal submitted by Egypt and Qatar.
The Israeli army has asked residents of the eastern neighborhoods of the city of Rafah to evacuate the area in preparation for a potential ground operation.
Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said during a brief press conference that they are asking residents to evacuate the areas they have identified, and that the planes also bombed more than 50 targets in the Rafah area throughout the day, which they described as "terrorist" targets.
