Naftali Bennett, Israel's Prime Minister (PM), approved today, Friday to take a new positive step towards the Kingdom Hashemite of Jordan.

"Yedioth Ahronoth", an Israeli daily newspaper, said today, that Bennett has okayed selling additional quantities of freshwater within the limits of 50 m cubic meters annually to Jordan for five years.

The Israeli paper revealed that the Jordanian officials asked their Israeli counterpart, over the meeting of the Joint Israeli- Jordanian Water Committee, to buy more quantities of fresh water in addition to the present quantities.

It is worth noting to Jordan is suffering from a severe scarcity of water due to the strain of local sources.

According to Y. Ahronoth, the Israeli Premier got a nod to sell freshwater to Jordan for the current and next years only.

Then Israel studies the Jordanian demands of water in the following years to come.

It indicated that Bennett hopes to turn a new page in relations between Tel Aviv and Amman after a period of tensions between the two countries.

The Jordanian government refused to allow the plane of ex-Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to cross the Jordanian space on its way to Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last March.

In April, the then - Israel’s Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted Jordan’s request to get an additional quantity of fresh water according to a treaty signed between the Hashemite Kingdom and Israel.

Israeli media outlets pointed out that the Jordanian request was submitted to Israel weeks ago through the Israeli-Jordanian Joint Water Committee which was formed following the signing of a peace treaty between the two states in 1994.

On the other hand, Walla, an Israeli website, said that the Joe Biden administration urged Israel to supply Jordan with freshwater.

However, Haaretz, an Israeli Hebrew-spoken daily newspaper, revealed that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a Jordanian request to supply the Hashemite Kingdom with more freshwater.
