Israel has approved $827 million in emergency funding to purchase military equipment, more than two weeks after the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran, according to Israeli media reports published Sunday.
The Israeli government authorized the 2.6-billion-shekel package during a phone meeting of ministers late Friday. The funds will be used to buy security equipment and address urgent operational needs.
Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the budget will cover the purchase of military supplies but did not provide further details about the specific equipment.
According to a document from Israel’s Ministry of Finance submitted to ministers, and reported Sunday by Israeli outlets including Channel N12, the intensity of the fighting has created an immediate need for operational support, including the purchase of ammunition, advanced weapons systems, and the replenishment of essential combat equipment stocks.
The document stated that due to the intensity of the fighting, there is an urgent need to purchase ammunition and advanced weaponry while renewing core combat equipment inventories.
The measure was described as an exceptional emergency decision intended solely to meet needs arising from the ongoing conflict.
The funding will come from Israel’s $222 billion state budget, which the government approved on March 12. According to media reports, the budget is expected to receive final approval from the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, by March 31.
