Israel has announced that it will not discuss a ceasefire with Hezbollah during the direct talks scheduled with the Lebanese government in Washington next week.
The Israeli Ambassador to Washington, Yechiel Leiter, and his Lebanese counterpart, Nada Hamadeh Moawad, held a telephone conversation in which they agreed to meet next Tuesday at the U.S. State Department headquarters.
Leiter stated that Israel has "agreed to initiate formal peace negotiations" with the Lebanese government. However, he emphasized that Tel Aviv has refused to discuss a ceasefire with Hezbollah.
