According to local media, the Islamic Jihad in Palestine issued a warning to Israel yesterday not to harm the six Palestinians who have escaped or others who are still being imprisoned in Israeli jails.

"Harming the prisoners is a red line, and the occupation must consider carefully what we say and understand that we are ready and able to protect our prisoners by all means," a spokesman for the group's military wing, Al-Quds Brigades, told journalists in Jenin.

He described the escapees, five of whom are members of the Islamic Jihad, as "heroes." "They took their freedom against their jailers' wishes."

According to the spokesman, all members of the Palestinian factions' military wings in Jenin are prepared to defend the city in the event of an Israeli incursion in search of the released inmates.

The response to any Israeli aggression against the captives, according to the Al-Quds Brigades, "will be faster than Israel anticipated."
