Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar criticized the United States for supplying weapons to Israel and called for an end to such arms shipments.

The British agency "B Media" reported that Varadkar will meet later today (Sunday) with US President Joe Biden at the White House, concluding a week of engagements that included a previous bilateral meeting between the two leaders.

Biden said he agrees with the Irish Prime Minister's calls for a ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible.

However, Varadkar, speaking to reporters in Washington DC, stated that there are still disagreements between the administrations of both countries on several issues.

He made it "clear" to Biden that Israel's ongoing military operations in Gaza are not in self-defense.

The Irish leader noted that the United States is working hard to secure a ceasefire, but Biden has not gone as far as calling for an immediate halt to hostilities.

Varadkar had met with the US President on Friday for a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office.

The two leaders discussed the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as Irish-American trade relations.
