Iraq’s ambassador to Egypt and permanent representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Dr. Qahtan Taha Khalaf, met with Roland Friedrich, acting head of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) office in Cairo, along with his accompanying delegation.
Friedrich expressed appreciation for Iraq and its embassy, outlining the financial and operational challenges facing UNRWA, including funding shortfalls and obstacles to fieldwork. He cited restrictions and pressures imposed by Israeli authorities that hinder the agency’s ability to carry out its United Nations-mandated mission.
Khalaf reaffirmed Iraq’s support for the Palestinian people in international forums and its backing of UNRWA as a UN-mandated organization. He said Iraq would continue providing assistance to both Palestinians and the agency.
The two sides also discussed regional and international issues and their implications for the Arab region and the global system.
