The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives (parliament), Hakim Al-Zamili, chaired a meeting with the ministries and relevant bodies to discuss the credentials of the 26 presidential candidates.
Today, Saturday, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that Al-Zamili chaired the meeting, in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, the Chairman of the Integrity Commission, the Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, and the Vice-President of the Accountability and Justice Commission.
The three presidencies of executive, judiciary, legislative powers in Iraq confirmed that the presidential elections will be held next October, considering the continuation of security turmoil and the encroachment on the authority of the state and its right to control the security and military decision represents a dangerous transgression.
A statement by the Presidency of the Republic stated - according to Alsumaria News channel - that the Iraqi President, Barham Salih, met last Thursday with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi, and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan; to discuss the latest developments and their serious repercussions.
Salih pointed out that the recent events in the country negatively affect national efforts to achieve security and stability and preserve the prestige and sovereignty of the state.
He warned that the national project adopted by the people's forces and political and social activities in order to get the country out of the current crises and challenges - in preparation for holding fair and equitable elections.
