In a significant display of humanitarian solidarity, Iraqi Health Minister Saleh Mahdi al-Hassnaoui has ordered the dispatch of 36 tons of medical supplies to hospitals across Lebanon. The move, announced by Iraq’s Ministry of Health in a statement conveyed through the Iraqi News Agency (WA‘), marks the first installment of the much-needed aid effort.

According to the official statement, the first shipment of medical supplies was delivered to Lebanon in the presence of a specially formed oversight committee and a representative from the Lebanese Ministry of Health. Iraqi authorities confirmed that a second batch of aid is scheduled for dispatch next week.

This decisive action underscores Iraq’s commitment to supporting its regional neighbors, following previous humanitarian assistance provided to both Palestine and Lebanon amid ongoing challenges since October 2023. The initiative is part of a broader regional policy aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructures and providing essential medical resources where they are most needed.

As tensions in the region continue to impact public health services, the Iraqi government’s proactive measures are intended to alleviate the pressure on Lebanese medical facilities and reinforce the ties between the two nations. Health officials from both countries have welcomed the aid, seeing it as a critical component of cross-border cooperation during these turbulent times.

The move is expected to enhance treatment capabilities in Lebanese hospitals and ensure a steadier supply of vital medicines and equipment, thereby supporting the overall well-being of the population during this period of economic and social strain in the region.
