Today, the Iraqi army announced the killing of 42 ISIS terrorists, including leaders of the organization, during the "sweeping torrent" operation in Nineveh Governorate.
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool, said, "The sweeping torrent operation was launched in the Tigris sector in Nineveh Governorate, to pursue terrorist cells of ISIS."
Rasool explained that "the counter-terrorism forces carried out the operation in the Ain Al-Jahsh area, south of the city of Mosul, where ISIS terrorist groups are active."
The General added, "The forces clashed with the remnants of the terrorist gangs for two consecutive days, during which the anti-terrorist forces struck the enemy elements to retreat and return to the tunnels and caves in which they were holed up."
He also added that the anti-terror forces began to storm the sites of the organization's members, using grenades inside the tunnels, and this operation resulted in the killing of 42 terrorist elements, including the so-called governor of the Tigris sector called Baraa, his deputy Abu Mahmoud, and the official The media figure of the sector, called Abu Sayyaf, with his assistant, Sajjad.
He pointed out that the forces found several weapons, various equipment, and sums of money in local and foreign currencies inside the headquarters of the terrorist gangs, adding that the operation was with air support from the Iraqi army aviation and the international coalition.
ISIS's terrorist operations have escalated since the beginning of this year, targeting cities and military sectors across more than 6 governorates, including the capital, Baghdad, while the security authorities are carrying out semi-continuous military operations to track down the militants of the organization.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate announced today the arrest of the responsible for ISIS "bails" in a qualitative operation in the Kirkuk governorate in the north of the country.
The directorate explained that the detainee "was married to two ISIS leaders who were killed in previous operations, one of whom was the official of the island of Canaus," noting that she is "required by the judiciary under an arrest warrant as per the provisions of Article 4 terrorism."
