Iraqi Finance Minister Taif Sami met with Jean-Christophe Carret, the World Bank's Regional Director for the Middle East, on Thursday to discuss support for Iraq's economic and financial reform program.
According to a statement released by the Iraqi Finance Ministry and reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the meeting focused on following up on World Bank loans and grants, priorities for development projects, and ways the World Bank can help enhance the finance and business sectors and improve the investment environment in Iraq.
The meeting, also attended by the World Bank's Special Representative in Iraq, Richard Abdelnour, emphasized the ongoing bilateral coordination to promote sustainable development. Discussions also covered the bank's support for the Iraqi government's program concerning economic reform.
Minister Sami highlighted the government's interest in strengthening partnerships with international financial institutions as part of accelerating financial and banking reforms in line with the Iraqi government's vision to consolidate the pillars of the national economy, achieve economic balance, and correct the course of fiscal policy in Iraq.
