Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul-Amir Al-Shammari met with his British counterpart, Yvette Cooper, to discuss enhancing security and intelligence collaboration between the two nations. The talks focused on tracking wanted individuals and expanding joint efforts in critical areas.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, aimed at bolstering cooperation in combating drug trafficking and cross-border crime.
Minister Al-Shammari highlighted discussions on exchanging expertise and training in border security and counterterrorism efforts.
For her part, British Interior Minister Yvette Cooper expressed her delight at making her first visit to Iraq. She commended the significant advancements in Iraq’s security sector and emphasized the importance of the agreement.
“The memorandum signed today with Iraq is a vital step for the UK Government,” Cooper stated, adding that it seeks to enhance security collaboration with Iraq to safeguard civilian lives in both countries.
