"Russia Today" correspondent in Iraq reported that at least two people were killed and dozens were injured in clashes that took place on Friday between demonstrators and security forces in the city of Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate, southern Iraq.

The correspondent indicated that the demonstrators stormed the governorate building in the center of Nasiriyah, the center of Dhi Qar Governorate.

For his part, a medical source in the city confirmed that "the pace of events escalated in the city of Nasiriyah, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries among the demonstrators and the security forces."

He stressed, "Al-Haboubi Hospital is crowded with injuries."

The demonstrators are calling for the dismissal of the governor of Dhi Qar and all officials in the governorate's administration, and for the killers of the demonstrators to be held accountable.

A protester was killed yesterday, Thursday, in Dhi Qar Governorate, in the south of the country, during clashes with the security forces, while 18 people were injured, including 8 demonstrators and 10 policemen, as a result of clashes between the two parties during Wednesday's protests.

Correspondents of news agencies in Iraq reported that 5 security forces and 3 demonstrators were wounded, as a preliminary outcome, during clashes that took place on Friday near the Dhi Qar governorate building during a protest demonstration.

The High Commissioner for Human Rights in Iraq warned of the continuing state of insecurity in the Dhi Qar Governorate in the south of the country, which has caused casualties among the demonstrators and the security forces.

In a statement, the Commission indicated that it “followed up, through monitoring teams, the protests in Dhi Qar, which led to an exacerbation of clashes between demonstrators and security forces, which resulted in casualties on both sides as a result of the use of live ammunition and tear gas, stones and sharp instruments in addition to burning The governorate building and closing the Zeitoun and Al Karama bridges."
