Ahmed Al-Sahaf, spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, disclosed Iraq's intention to strengthen its partnership with Russia, particularly within the energy sector. He further emphasized that Russian companies already operating in Iraq are on track for lucrative investments.
In his conversation with Sputnik, Al-Sahaf acknowledged that the evolving relationship between Baghdad and Moscow is notably vibrant in the energy domains, chiefly oil and gas. Russian firms operating in Iraq are poised for profitable ventures that will bolster bilateral ties in these industries, he affirmed.
Al-Sahaf elaborated that the joint committee between Baghdad and Moscow has already held discussions that scrutinized the relationships between the two nations. The primary objective of these dialogues was to uplift the standing of both countries across diverse forums and tiers.
Anticipating the future, Al-Sahaf predicted a shift in the way Baghdad and Moscow interact within the energy sectors, particularly in the realm of gas. He disclosed that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is actively considering the gas portfolio as an investment opportunity to fortify Iraq's associations with all its allies and partners.
Complementing Al-Sahaf's viewpoint, Ali Al-Ward, the Director of the Technical Department at the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, lauded Russian corporations active in Iraq's oil sector. He acknowledged their contribution in enhancing the sector's productive capacity, thus supporting exports and financial yields.
