Iraq presented its vision for modernizing Arab media during the 55th session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.

Bassem Salem, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Iraq’s Communications and Media Commission, said the Iraqi delegation included representatives from Iraqi Media Network, the commission, and the Cabinet Secretariat. He noted that the meeting addressed key regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause and developments in Sudan, while exploring ways to enhance joint Arab media cooperation.

The council adopted recommendations supporting Palestine and emphasized the need to counter hate speech and incitement. Salem added that ministers also discussed ways to integrate emerging technologies and artificial intelligence into media work, while safeguarding Arab cultural identity.

Haider Majid, spokesperson for Iraq’s Cabinet Secretariat, said Iraq remains firmly committed to active participation in Arab media councils and to implementing adopted recommendations. He stressed that Baghdad views media coordination as a strategic pillar for defending Arab causes, adding that Iraq supports the newly formed Arab Digital Media Committee as a platform to expand digital capacities, improve content oversight, and strengthen the region’s media presence globally.
