Iraq Offers Condolences to Egypt over Deadly Aswan Bus Crash

On Thursday, the Iraqi government has extended condolences to Egypt over a deadly tourist bus crash that took place on Wednesday in Upper Egypt’s Aswan, causing 10 deaths, including of foreign tourists, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

“The Iraqi government extends deep and sincere condolences to the brotherly Egyptian people and the leadership headed by his excellency, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, over the victims of the painful incident in southern Egypt’s Aswan governorate,” INA said in a statement by the media office of Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.

The Iraqi government also expressed solidarity with the families of the victims.

On Wednesday, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also condoled El-Sisi over the tragic crash, wishing the injured people a speedy recovery.

The accident took place on the Aswan-Abu Simbel highway when a truck and a tourist bus collided, killing 10 people – five Egyptians, four French, and one Belgian.

Also, 14 people, including eight from France and six from Belgium, were injured. The injured have all been discharged from hospital after being treated for minor injuries, according to local media reports.

The cause of the crash is not immediately clear, and an investigation by the Public Prosecution is ongoing.
