Iraq Looks Forward to Enhancing Mutual Co-op with Egypt: FM

On Sunday, the Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, said that his country is looking forward to more cooperation, exchange of intelligence and security coordination with Egypt to confront the remnants of the Islamic State terrorist group.

In a meeting with the newly-appointed Egyptian ambassador to Baghdad, Walid Mohamed Ismail, the Iraqi minister expressed the readiness to provide the necessary support for the success of the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Iraq, to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries in many fields, according to a statement from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

On his part, the Egyptian ambassador confirmed that his country is looking forward to establishing significant relations with Iraq.

Recently, the relations between Egypt and Iraq enhanced in many fields, particularly in the oil and construction sectors.

In December 2020, Egypt and Iraq agreed on ‘oil-for-development’ agreement: Egyptian companies would implement development projects, particularly in infrastructure and reconstruction in return for oil, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation.

The two countries are also aiming to increase the volume of intra-trade and remove any obstacles in the flow of export goods between the two countries, the statement continued.
