The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, is witnessing a heavy security deployment by the Counter-Terrorism Service and Iraqi army armored vehicles, hours after the murderers of the Iraqi researcher Hisham al-Hashimi were captured.
Security sources in Iraq said that special teams were deployed at the entrances to the Green Zone in central Baghdad, Abu Nawas Street and Jadiriya Bridge since Friday evening.
The reports confirmed that the security deployment in Baghdad comes as a precautionary measure in anticipation of any emergency.
The security moves come after the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, announced the arrest of the killers of the Iraqi researcher, about a year after his murder.

Al-Kadhimi said in a tweet, "We promised to arrest the killers of Hisham Al-Hashemi, and we fulfilled the promise, and before that, we put the killers of Ahmed Abdel Samad before justice."
The Iraqi prime minister continued, "Our forces have arrested hundreds of criminals implicated in the blood of innocents. Everyone has the right to criticize. We do not work for cheap advertisements, nor do we bid, but we do our duty as much as we can to serve our people and achieve the righteousness."
Al-Hashimi, born in Baghdad in 1973, is a historian and researcher in security, strategic affairs and extremist groups, and he was specialized in the ISIS terrorist file in particular.
In July 2020, unidentified gunmen assassinated the security expert and strategist in front of his house in Baghdad.
