The Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemned on Tuesday the targeting of diplomatic and consular missions in the capital, Baghdad, and the Kurdistan Region, describing the incidents as unacceptable violations of international norms.
In a statement, the ministry said it “strongly condemns and denounces” attacks aimed at diplomatic and consular facilities in both Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The ministry stressed the importance of respecting the security and sanctity of diplomatic missions, calling for adherence to international laws and conventions that guarantee the protection of foreign diplomatic representations.
Moreover, the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority announced the extension of the country’s airspace closure for an additional 72 hours, according to the same report.
No further details were immediately provided regarding the reasons for the extended closure or its potential impact on international and domestic flights.
The developments come amid heightened security concerns in Iraq and the wider region, as authorities monitor the situation and take precautionary measures to ensure safety and stability.
