Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, on Friday to discuss pressing regional developments and the current status of negotiations between the United States and Iran.
The high-level meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2026 Munich Security Conference (MSC), a premier global forum for debating international security policy.
Strengthening Regional Stability
In a statement shared on his official "X" (formerly Twitter) account, Minister Hussein highlighted the focus of the talks: "We discussed the importance of intensifying efforts aimed at consolidating stability and reducing tensions to enhance regional security and support de-escalation pathways."
Both ministers emphasized that proactive diplomacy is essential to maintaining peace in the Gulf region. The discussions also touched upon the progress of ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran, as both Iraq and Kuwait play critical roles as regional mediators and neighbors concerned with the outcome of these negotiations.
Bilateral Cooperation
Beyond regional security, the two foreign ministers explored ways to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors. The meeting underscored the strong diplomatic ties between Baghdad and Kuwait City, with both nations seeking to align their strategies to address shared economic and security challenges.
The Munich Security Conference continues to serve as a vital backdrop for such diplomatic exchanges, allowing regional powers to coordinate their stances on global issues impacting the Middle East.
