Iranian local media outlets mentioned that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered senior officials to declare results of an investigation into the downing of a Ukrainian jetliner at Wednesday’s dawn.

He stressed that the investigations should be conducted honestly and clearly.

The results must also be declared transparently and bravely.

The Iranian Supreme Leaded was briefed on procedures of the  probes supervised by  the commandment of the Iranian

the military which admitted that a human error caused the catastrophe of the ill-starred Ukrainian liner.

“Fars” a quasi-official news agency quoted well-placed Iranian officials saying that Khamenei was informed on the results of the Iranian command about the Ukrainian plane.

He ordered the National Security Council to convene.

An official statement released this morning admitted that the ill-fated plane was downed mistakenly due to a human error.

The Iranian acknowledgment of responsibility for the air disaster stirred disgust across the world.

The state-run TV quoted a military resource this morning who said the Ukrainian jetliner was targeted wrongly.

The military official added that the ill-fated plane flew over a sensitive military center belong to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard near Tehran, the capital city of Iran.

The soldiers fired at that passenger plane which boards people of various nationalities, among them a number of Iranians.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Javad Zarif tweeted today that he and the Iranian government expressed regrets and extended condolence to families of the national and foreign victims.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy responded on Saturday morning that Iran must make an official apology and agree to a full investigation and compensation, as well as co-operating with Ukraine’s own investigators.

“Our 45 professionals should have full access and co-operation to establish justice,” a statement from the presidency said.

Hassan Rouhani, the Iranian president, wrote on Saturday: “The Islamic Republic of Iran deeply regrets this disastrous mistake.

My thoughts and prayers go to all the mourning families. I offer my sincerest condolences.”

Iran’s acknowledgment of responsibility was likely to renew questions of why authorities did not shut down the country’s main international airport and its airspace after launching ballistic missile attacks when they feared US reprisals.
