Iran's Fars News Agency reported on Sunday that boats operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) redirected six vessels away from the Omani shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring the continuing challenges facing maritime traffic despite recent diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.

According to the report, the vessels, including oil tankers and cargo ships, altered course while attempting to exit the Gulf through the internationally used channel adjacent to Oman's coastline. Some of the ships later proceeded through a route closer to Iranian territorial waters.

The reported incident illustrates the ongoing complexities surrounding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following the U.S.-Iran agreement announced in mid-June, with competing interpretations over the preferred navigation routes through the strategic waterway.

Iran has maintained that vessels should transit using routes designated by Tehran, while the United States has continued to support commercial shipping through channels running closer to the Omani coast.

In a separate development, Qatar announced on Sunday that maritime traffic had returned to normal with immediate effect after the country suspended navigation on June 29 amid heightened regional security concerns.

Shipping data indicate that Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers have begun gradually resuming transits through the Strait of Hormuz following an interruption that lasted about one week.

The restart signals Doha's intention to quickly restore exports from the Ras Laffan Industrial City, the world's largest liquefied natural gas export hub, as regional shipping conditions continue to stabilize despite lingering security concerns.
