Iranian President Masoud Bazshakian arrived in Cairo this evening, leading a delegation on a special flight from Tehran. This visit marks the first by an Iranian president to Egypt in over 11 years.
Bazshakian is participating in the 11th Summit of the Developing Eight Islamic Countries (D-8).
Before departing Tehran, Bazshakian emphasized the importance of cooperation among Islamic nations and the need to set aside differences. “During this visit, we will discuss issues concerning Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon,” he stated, according to Iran's Mehr News Agency.
The Iranian president further remarked, “We aim to strengthen our friendly relations with Islamic countries to thwart the conspiracies of our enemies.”
He added, “Iran is an active member of the D-8 group. These meetings can bring Islamic countries closer together socially, politically, economically, and culturally.”
