Iran’s Ambassador to Egypt, Mojtaba Ferdowsi-Pour, has commented on reports discussing Egypt’s possible role in confronting Iranian attacks against Gulf states, stressing that Tehran has no confirmed information regarding such claims and supports a greater regional role for Cairo in future Arab-Iranian dialogue.

During a televised interview with an Egyptian presenter, the Iranian ambassador was asked about reports published by Africa Intelligence and comments by Saudi journalist Abdulrahman Al-Rashed suggesting Egypt could play a role in countering potential Iranian threats targeting Gulf countries.

Ferdowsi-Pour responded by saying the information could not be confirmed and described the matter as an internal Egyptian issue that should be clarified by Egyptian authorities.

The ambassador said he did not possess confirmed information proving the reports were accurate, adding that the issue required further examination before any conclusions could be reached.

At the same time, the Iranian diplomat stated that Egypt has the right to manage its own defence relations and partnerships, including cooperation with Gulf Cooperation Council states within the framework of joint defence arrangements.

He suggested that such thinking may form part of Egypt’s strategic approach to regional security matters.

Asked about Tehran’s possible reaction if Egyptian military forces were deployed in Gulf countries to confront Iranian attacks, Ferdowsi-Pour said Iran’s main concern remains the presence of the United States and Israel in the region.

He stated that Tehran would not have a problem with other regional parties as long as there was no support for what he described as the “American-Israeli enemy.”

The ambassador also accused Israel of expanding its military reach after developing ties with some Gulf states, claiming that long-range Israeli missiles had reached areas opposite Iran’s coastline.

Ferdowsi-Pour added that after the end of current conflicts, Iran hopes to begin negotiations and joint dialogue aimed at strengthening Arab-Iranian relations, noting that Egypt could play a central role in such efforts.

He praised Cairo’s potential influence in regional diplomacy and said Tehran supports an active Egyptian role in promoting dialogue and stability across the Middle East.

The ambassador reiterated Iran’s longstanding position since the 1979 revolution that Gulf security should not rely on foreign powers. Instead, he called for collective regional security involving all countries in the region managing their own energy, economic, political and security affairs without outside interference.

His remarks come amid continuing regional tensions and growing discussions over defence cooperation, Gulf security arrangements and the future balance of power in the Middle East.
