The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the decision of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to open an international investigation into the suppression of protests sparked by the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, in Iran.
And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, in a statement, that Tehran opposes the special meeting of the Human Rights Council, and considers the decision issued by it “rejected,” stressing that it “does not officially recognize the mission entrusted to it.”
On Thursday, the UNHRC endorsed the resolution submitted by Germany and Iceland with 25 votes in favor, six against, and 16 abstentions, during an emergency meeting of the Council in Geneva.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed to the existence of a specialized committee to investigate the death of Mahsa Amini, and the existence of a national investigation committee consisting of lawyers and the participation of independent representatives.
