Iran: Nuclear Agency Agreement Respects Security Concerns, Parliamentary Legislation

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, affirmed that the country’s new understanding with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) takes into account both Iran’s security concerns and relevant parliamentary legislation.

Baghaei emphasized that Iran has been a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) since 1970 and has consistently acted as a responsible party to international non-proliferation agreements, implementing its safeguards commitments in good faith for decades.

He noted that the events of June—when two nuclear-armed states allegedly used force against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities—created a situation in which Tehran could no longer continue its cooperation with the IAEA as before.

“This aggressive action by the United States and Israel forced us to reconsider our engagement with the Agency in line with parliamentary legislation, due to the serious security and safety concerns it caused,” Baghaei stated.

He stressed that Iran remains in regular contact with the IAEA, but that cooperation was temporarily suspended following the attacks. “Today, we have agreed with the Agency to resume interaction in a way that respects our security concerns while also observing parliamentary requirements,” he added.
