Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks in Tehran with Pakistan’s interior minister amid heightened regional tensions and growing concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

The meeting came as Iran’s Revolutionary Guards navay said vessels transiting the strategic waterway must coordinate passage with Iranian authorities, following recent military escalation involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

In statement, the naval arm of the IRGC said no vessel would be permitted to cross the strait without prior coordination, adding that 26 ships had passed through the waterway during the previous 24 hours in coordination with Iranian forces.

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, carrying a substantial share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately disclose details of Araghchi’s discussions with the Pakistani official, though the talks come amid intensified regional diplomatic efforts aimed at containing tensions and preventing further escalation.
