Iran Expands Rail Trade With China Amid U.S. Naval Pressure

Iran is increasing its trade with China via rail transport to mitigate the effects of a U.S. maritime blockade, according to a Bloomberg News report on Friday.

The report indicates that Tehran is intensifying its use of overland rail routes connecting Iran and China, as shipping activities face mounting pressure in regional waters. This shift comes amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, which have disrupted maritime trade flows and energy shipments along key Gulf routes.

In response to Western sanctions and a U.S. naval blockade initiated in April 2026, Iran has sought alternative logistics corridors. By focusing on rail and land-based networks, Tehran aims to sustain its economic lifelines outside the reach of Western naval patrols and the U.S. dollar-based financial system.
