Tensions between Washington and Tehran have sharply escalated following reports that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has shot down a U.S. fighter jet over the Iranian territory, prompting an urgent response from the White House.
The White House confirmed that President Donald Trump received a detailed and immediate briefing on the incident, which marks a significant development in the already strained relations between the two countries.
According to U.S. and international media sources, the aircraft is believed to be an F-15 fighter jet that was targeted and downed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in southern Iran. However, conflicting reports have emerged, with some outlets suggesting the jet could have been an F-35 fighter jet, highlighting ongoing uncertainty surrounding the incident.
Reports also remain inconsistent regarding the fate of the aircraft’s crew. An Israeli media outlet claimed that one crew member had been rescued, though no official confirmation has been issued. Meanwhile, other sources indicate that the pilot may still be unaccounted for.
Iranian reports suggest that U.S. forces have launched extensive search and rescue operations inside the Iranian territories to locate the missing pilot. These efforts reportedly involve a Lockheed C-130 Hercules along with Black Hawk helicopter units operating in the area.
According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, an American rescue attempt was unsuccessful despite hours of extensive search involving multiple aircraft and helicopters. Unconfirmed reports have also raised the possibility that the pilot may have been captured by Iranian forces.
In a further escalation, the Fars News Agency reported that Iranian authorities have announced a financial reward for anyone who captures the U.S. pilot, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and its potential geopolitical consequences.
U.S. media outlets, including CBS News, have released images and video footage purportedly showing the wreckage of the downed aircraft. However, key details surrounding the incident remain unclear, with both sides maintaining partial official silence.
