Iran Announces Downing of US Drone over Southern City

Iranian state television said the country’s air defence systems shot down a US drone over the southern coastal city of Bandar Abbas early on Tuesday.

According to the Iranian report, air defence units detected and intercepted the drone while it was flying over the city.

Iranian television did not disclose the type of drone involved, its mission or the location where its wreckage landed.

There was no immediate comment from the United States on the Iranian claim.

Bandar Abbas is a major port city in southern Iran and lies near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
