Apple is reportedly planning a major shake-up to its release schedule by delaying the launch of its standard iPhone 18 model until spring 2027, according to a report from South Korea’s ETNews.
The decision marks the first time since 2007 that Apple will break from its annual iPhone release pattern. Instead of unveiling the full iPhone 18 lineup in September 2026, the company is expected to launch only the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, a slimmer iPhone 18 Air, and its long-rumoured foldable device.
The entry-level iPhone 18 will then be released months later in spring 2027, alongside a budget-friendly iPhone 18e model.
Industry analysts suggest the move could be part of Apple’s wider plan to adopt a semi-annual release cycle. By splitting premium models in the autumn and more affordable versions in the spring, Apple may be aiming to extend sales momentum and stabilise demand throughout the year.
Currently, iPhone sales peak in the fourth quarter, before dropping sharply in the following months. The new strategy could help maintain consistent consumer interest in Apple devices.
The ETNews report aligns with previous analysis from The Information and respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who earlier this year suggested Apple was considering altering its product calendar to better sustain growth.
Despite the reported shake-up, Apple’s immediate roadmap remains unchanged. The company is still expected to unveil the full iPhone 17 lineup at its September 9, 2025 event.
Apple has not issued any official comment on the leak, leaving speculation to mount until the company confirms its future release strategy.
